mid- (“बीच/मध्य”) + stream (“धारा/नदी”) से बना; पहले शाब्दिक अर्थ “धारा के बीच में”, बाद में अर्थ-विस्तार होकर “चल रही प्रक्रिया/कार्य के बीच में” के लिए भी प्रयोग होने लगा।
