From English May + fly, referring to the insect’s common mass emergence around May; linked to the scientific order name Ephemeroptera (Greek ephemeros “lasting a day” + pteron “wing”).
अंग्रेज़ी May + fly से बना, क्योंकि ये कीट कई जगहों पर मई के आसपास समूहों में निकलते हैं; वैज्ञानिक नाम Ephemeroptera ग्रीक ephemeros (एक दिन टिकने वाला) + pteron (पंख) से जुड़ा है।
Definition
Mayflies are delicate aquatic insects: they spend most of their life as larvae (nymphs) in fresh water, then emerge as winged adults that often live only hours to a few days, forming swarms and serving as important food for fish.
