Origin & History
From Latin matrix (“womb; source; mould”), from mater (“mother”); later extended to mean a mould or medium and then a numerical array in mathematics.
लैटिन matrix (“गर्भाशय; स्रोत; साँचा”) से, जो mater (“माता”) से निकला; बाद में अर्थ ‘साँचा/माध्यम/आधार’ तक फैला और फिर गणित में संख्यात्मक ‘आव्यूह’ के अर्थ में प्रयुक्त होने लगा।
Definition
A matrix is something that surrounds, holds, or provides a framework for other things; in mathematics it is a rectangular arrangement (array) of numbers or symbols used to solve equations and represent transformations.
मैट्रिक्स वह संरचना/माध्यम है जो किसी अन्य वस्तु को घेरता, थामता या आधार प्रदान करता है; गणित में यह संख्याओं/चिह्नों का आयताकार ‘आव्यूह’ (ऐरे) होता है जिसका उपयोग समीकरण हल करने और रूपांतरण (ट्रांसफॉर्मेशन) दर्शाने में होता है।
