Origin & History
Maintainability is formed from the verb maintain (from Old French maintenir, from Latin manu tenere “to hold in the hand”) plus the suffix -ability, meaning “capacity or quality of being.” It became common in technical and engineering contexts in the 20th century.

Definition
Maintainability is the degree to which a product, system, or piece of software can be maintained—i.e., corrected, improved, adapted, and kept reliable—with reasonable time, cost, and effort. It is influenced by factors like clear design, modular structure, documentation, testability, and accessibility of parts/code.
मेंटेनबिलिटी वह स्तर है जिससे किसी उत्पाद, सिस्टम या सॉफ़्टवेयर को आसानी से बनाए रखा जा सके—जैसे त्रुटियाँ ठीक करना, सुधार करना, बदलाव के अनुसार ढालना, और समय के साथ भरोसेमंद तरीके से चलाते रखना—वह भी उचित समय, लागत और प्रयास में। यह स्पष्ट डिज़ाइन, मॉड्यूलर संरचना, दस्तावेज़ीकरण, परीक्षण-क्षमता और हिस्सों/कोड की सुलभता जैसे कारकों से प्रभावित होती है।
