From French macle and earlier medieval Latin macula “spot, stain”; later specialized in mineralogy for twinned crystals.
फ्रेंच macle तथा उससे पहले मध्यकालीन लैटिन macula “धब्बा/दाग” से; बाद में इसका अर्थ खनिजविज्ञान में ‘जुड़वाँ क्रिस्टल’ के लिए विशिष्ट हो गया।
Definition
In mineralogy, a macle is a twinned crystal—two crystals intergrown in a symmetrical way, often appearing as a flattened or star-like form; the term is also used historically for a natural flaw or spot, especially in a diamond.
