From Hindi/Urdu khaddar (खद्दर), denoting a coarse hand-spun cloth; closely associated with khadi (खादी) promoted in India in the early 20th century, especially by Mahatma Gandhi and the Swadeshi movement.
हिंदी/उर्दू ‘खद्दर’ से, जिसका अर्थ मोटा हाथ-काता कपड़ा है; यह ‘खादी’ से निकटता से जुड़ा है, जिसे 20वीं सदी के आरंभ में भारत में, विशेषकर महात्मा गांधी और स्वदेशी आंदोलन द्वारा, प्रोत्साहित किया गया।

Khaddars are pieces or types of khaddar/khadi cloth—coarse, durable, hand-spun and hand-woven cotton fabric, traditionally worn in India and strongly linked with the Swadeshi movement and Gandhian simplicity.
