फ़ारसी/अरबी ‘क़नात’ (qanāt; ‘कनात’ रूप भी) से, जिसका अर्थ भूमिगत जल-नहर/जल-मार्ग है।
Definition
A kanat is a traditional underground water-supply system: a gently sloping tunnel connected to the surface by vertical shafts, used to channel groundwater from the interior of a hill or aquifer to villages and fields in lower valleys.
कनात एक पारंपरिक भूमिगत जल-आपूर्ति प्रणाली है: हल्की ढलान वाली सुरंग जो ऊर्ध्वाधर कुओं/शाफ़्टों से सतह से जुड़ी रहती है, और पहाड़ी/जलभृत के भीतर से भूजल को नीचे घाटी के गाँवों और खेतों तक पहुँचाती है।
