हिंदी/उर्दू 'कहार/कहाड़' से, जिसका अर्थ बोझ ढोने वाला या पालकी उठाने वाला है; आगे चलकर यह उत्तर भारत में एक समुदाय/जाति के नाम के रूप में भी प्रचलित हुआ।
Definition
In South Asian usage, a kahar is traditionally a person employed to carry loads or to bear a palanquin (sedan chair), and the term is also used as a community name associated with such work.
