From German Junker, literally “young lord” (Jung “young” + Herr “lord”), used for members of the Prussian landed nobility; the sense “old car” developed later in informal English.

Definition
In historical use, a Junker was a Prussian (later German) landed noble, often associated with the military and conservative politics; in informal modern use, it can mean an old, unreliable vehicle or piece of machinery.
