From Latinized tribal name Ingvaeones (Ingaevones), mentioned by the Roman author Tacitus; modern linguistic use applies the name to the North Sea Germanic subgroup/features.

Definition
Ingvaeonic refers to (1) the ancient Germanic tribal grouping called the Ingvaeones described in early sources, and (2) the set of shared linguistic features/dialects often termed North Sea Germanic within West Germanic (commonly associated with early English, Frisian, and Low Saxon areas).
