Origin & History
From imprint (to press/mark), ultimately from Latin imprimere ‘to press into, impress’ (in- ‘into’ + premere ‘to press’); imprinting developed as the gerund/present participle and later as a term in ethology and genetics.
यह शब्द imprint (छापना/निशान बनाना) से बना है, जिसकी जड़ लैटिन imprimere ‘अंदर दबाना/छापना’ (in- ‘में’ + premere ‘दबाना’) में है; बाद में imprinting का प्रयोग -ing रूप के साथ-साथ व्यवहार-विज्ञान (ethology) और आनुवंशिकी में तकनीकी शब्द के रूप में विकसित हुआ।
Definition
Imprinting refers to (1) leaving a clear mark or design on a surface (e.g., printing a logo), (2) a rapid form of learning at a sensitive early-life stage where an animal forms a strong attachment/recognition (e.g., a chick following the first moving object it sees), and (3) in genetics, a parental-origin ‘mark’ on a gene so that only the mother’s or father’s copy is expressed.
इम्प्रिंटिंग का अर्थ है: (1) किसी सतह पर स्पष्ट छाप/निशान या डिज़ाइन बनाना (जैसे लोगो छापना), (2) जीवन के शुरुआती संवेदनशील चरण में होने वाला तेज़ सीखना जिसमें कोई जानवर किसी वस्तु/व्यक्ति से मजबूत लगाव या पहचान बना लेता है (जैसे चूजा पहली चलती चीज़ का पीछा करना), और (3) आनुवंशिकी में जीन पर माता-पिता-उत्पत्ति की ‘छाप’ लगना, जिससे जीन की केवल माँ या पिता वाली प्रति ही अभिव्यक्त होती है।
