Named after the Ilmen Mountains (Ilmensky Mountains) in the Urals, Russia, where it was identified; the mineral name entered scientific usage in the early 19th century.
इसका नाम रूस के उरल क्षेत्र की इल्मेन (इल्मेन्स्की) पर्वतमाला के नाम पर पड़ा, जहाँ इसकी पहचान हुई; यह नाम 19वीं शताब्दी की शुरुआत में वैज्ञानिक प्रयोग में आया।
Definition
Ilmenite is a naturally occurring mineral made mainly of iron and titanium oxide (FeTiO3). It is commonly found in igneous and metamorphic rocks and in beach/river placer sands, and it is a major source of titanium used to make titanium dioxide pigments and titanium metal.
इल्मेनाइट एक प्राकृतिक खनिज है जो मुख्यतः लौह और टाइटेनियम के ऑक्साइड (FeTiO3) से बना होता है। यह प्रायः आग्नेय व कायांतरित चट्टानों तथा समुद्र-तट/नदी की प्लेसर (बालू) जमाओं में मिलता है, और टाइटेनियम डाइऑक्साइड वर्णक तथा टाइटेनियम धातु बनाने के लिए टाइटेनियम का प्रमुख अयस्क है।
