From New Latin ichthyō- (“fish”), from Greek ikhthýs (ἰχθύς, “fish”) + Latin fauna (“animals of a region”).
नव-लैटिन ichthyō- (अर्थ: “मछली”), जो ग्रीक ikhthýs (ἰχθύς, “मछली”) से आया, तथा लैटिन fauna (अर्थ: “किसी क्षेत्र के प्राणी/जीव-जंतु”) के संयोग से बना।
Definition
Ichthyofauna refers to all the fish species (and fish communities) occurring in a defined water body or region, often studied in ecology, fisheries, and biogeography.
इच्थ्योफॉना से आशय किसी निश्चित जलाशय, आवास, क्षेत्र या भू-वैज्ञानिक काल में पाई जाने वाली सभी मछली प्रजातियों (और मछली समुदायों) के समुच्चय से है; इसका अध्ययन पारिस्थितिकी, मत्स्य-विज्ञान और जीव-भूगोल में किया जाता है।
