From New Latin hydathodus, formed from Greek hydōr (“water”) + -hodos/-hodous (“path/way; tooth”), referring to a water-exuding opening.

Definition
A hydathode is a water-secreting structure in many plants, usually found at leaf tips or along leaf margins, that releases liquid water (guttation) through pores connected to vein endings, often when transpiration is low and root pressure is high.
