From Middle English hog(ge), likely from Old English or Old Norse/Germanic sources; originally referring to a young sheep in some dialects, later chiefly to swine.
यह शब्द मध्य अंग्रेज़ी hog(ge) से आया माना जाता है, जिसकी जड़ें पुरानी अंग्रेज़ी या पुरानी नॉर्स/जर्मैनिक स्रोतों में मानी जाती हैं; कुछ बोलियों में यह पहले युवा भेड़ के लिए भी प्रयुक्त था, बाद में मुख्यतः सूअर/स्वाइन के अर्थ में प्रचलित हुआ।
Definition
Hog commonly means an adult pig (swine). In informal use it can insult someone who is greedy or refuses to share, and as a verb it means to take or keep more than your fair share (e.g., hog the blankets). It can also have specialized meanings (e.g., a large motorcycle, or nautical/technical senses).
'Hog' का आम अर्थ वयस्क सूअर (सूअर/सुअर) होता है। बोलचाल में यह लालची या बाँटने से इंकार करने वाले व्यक्ति के लिए अपमानजनक शब्द भी है, और क्रिया के रूप में इसका अर्थ है अपने हिस्से से ज़्यादा लेना या किसी चीज़ पर एकाधिकार करना (जैसे कंबल “hog” करना)। इसके कुछ विशेष अर्थ भी हैं (जैसे बड़ी मोटरसाइकिल, तथा नौसैनिक/तकनीकी अर्थ)।
