His

/ˈhɪz/

Origin & History

From Old English “his,” the genitive (possessive) form of “hē” (“he”); related to Germanic cognates such as German “sein.”

Definition

“His” shows possession by a male person or by “he.” It can come before a noun (“his book”) or stand alone as a possessive pronoun (“The choice was his”). Sometimes “His” is capitalized as an honorific when referring to God or a revered figure.

यह संज्ञा से पहले आ सकता है (“his book” = उसकी किताब) या अकेले स्वत्ववाचक सर्वनाम की तरह (“The choice was his” = चुनाव उसका था)।
