Formed in modern English as a compound of high + ranking (from rank, ultimately from Old French renc/rang, “row; rank”), used to mean “having a high rank.”
आधुनिक अंग्रेज़ी में high + ranking (rank से; rank का मूलतः पुरानी फ़्रेंच renc/rang ‘पंक्ति/श्रेणी’) के संयोजन से बना संयुक्त विशेषण, जिसका अर्थ ‘उच्च पद/रैंक वाला’ है।
