‘हेटमैन’ (पूर्वी यूरोप में सैन्य सेनापति/नेता की उपाधि; पोलिश/पुरानी यूक्रेनी ‘hetman’ से) + प्रत्यय ‘-ate’ (पद/अधिकार-क्षेत्र/प्रशासनिक इकाई दर्शाने वाला) से बना।

A hetmanate is a polity or administrative domain ruled by a hetman (a military leader), most notably referring to the Ukrainian Cossack Hetmanate (17th–18th centuries).
