Origin & History
From Middle English herb, from Old French erbe/herbe, from Latin herba (“grass, plant”). Initial /h/ is often silent in American English.
मध्य अंग्रेज़ी herb से, जो पुरानी फ़्रेंच erbe/herbe से आया, और उसका मूल लैटिन herba (“घास, पौधा”) है। अमेरिकी अंग्रेज़ी में प्रारंभिक /h/ अक्सर नहीं बोला जाता।
Definition
An herb is usually a small, green, leafy (non-woody) plant, or the leaves/parts of such a plant, used to add flavour to food (e.g., mint, basil) or used for healing in traditional/medical preparations. In some informal contexts, “herb” can also refer to marijuana.
