From Old English hǣth (heath, waste land) + -er, related to Middle English heth and Dutch/Low German heath forms; the plant name developed from the landscape term.
यह शब्द पुरानी अंग्रेज़ी hǣth (हीथ/बंजर झाड़ीदार भूमि) + -er से बना माना जाता है; यह मध्य अंग्रेज़ी heth तथा डच/लो जर्मन के समान रूपों से संबंधित है। पहले भूमि-प्रकार के अर्थ में, और बाद में उसी भूमि पर उगने वाले पौधे के नाम के रूप में प्रचलित हुआ।
Definition
Heather is a common name for low, woody, evergreen plants (especially Calluna vulgaris and related Ericaceae) that grow on moorlands and heaths and bear small bell-shaped purple, pink, or white flowers; it can also refer to the heathland where these plants grow.
हीदर (Heather) कम ऊँचाई वाली, लकड़ीदार, सदाबहार झाड़ी का सामान्य नाम है (विशेषतः Calluna vulgaris तथा एरिकेसी कुल की संबंधित प्रजातियाँ), जो मूर/हीथ जैसी बंजर भूमि पर उगती है और छोटी घंटीनुमा बैंगनी, गुलाबी या सफेद फूल देती है; कभी-कभी यह उस हीथ-भूमि (heathland) के लिए भी प्रयुक्त होता है जहाँ यह उगती है।
