यह नौकायन-सम्बंधी अंग्रेज़ी gybe (jibe का एक रूप) से आया है, जो हवा की दिशा के अनुसार पाल/boom को एक तरफ़ से दूसरी तरफ़ ले जाने वाली क्रिया को दर्शाता है।
Definition
In sailing, to gybe is to change from one tack to the other with the wind passing behind the boat, causing the boom/sail to swing across—sometimes suddenly; by extension it can mean to hesitate or vacillate about a plan.
नौकायन में gybe का अर्थ है हवा को नाव के पीछे से पार कराते हुए एक tack से दूसरे tack पर जाना, जिससे boom/पाल एक तरफ़ से दूसरी तरफ़ (कभी-कभी अचानक) झूल जाती है; विस्तार से इसका अर्थ किसी योजना पर हिचकिचाना/डगमगाना भी हो सकता है।
