Origin & History
Formed from Gothic + the suffix -ism, used to denote a style, movement, or characteristic; Gothic ultimately comes from Latin Gothicus (“of the Goths”), later applied to medieval art and architecture and then to literature and aesthetics.
यह शब्द Gothic + प्रत्यय -ism से बना है, जहाँ -ism किसी शैली/आंदोलन/विशेषता को दर्शाता है; Gothic का मूल लैटिन Gothicus (“गॉथ लोगों से संबंधित”) में है, जो बाद में मध्ययुगीन कला-वास्तुकला और फिर साहित्य व सौंदर्यबोध के लिए प्रयुक्त होने लगा।
Definition
Gothicism refers to qualities, themes, or stylistic features associated with the Gothic—such as medieval forms in architecture (pointed arches, vaults), or in literature an atmosphere of mystery, terror, decay, and the supernatural. It can also mean the deliberate use or revival of such Gothic elements.
गॉथिसिज़्म (Gothicism) से आशय ‘गॉथिक’ से जुड़ी विशेषताओं, विषयों या शैलीगत तत्वों से है—जैसे वास्तुकला में मध्ययुगीन रूप (नुकीले मेहराब, वॉल्ट), या साहित्य में रहस्य, भय, पतन और अलौकिकता का वातावरण। इसका अर्थ ऐसे गॉथिक तत्वों का जान-बूझकर प्रयोग या पुनर्जीवन भी हो सकता है।
