From Middle English *gossib* (“godparent; close companion”), from Old English *godsibb* (“related in God”), later shifting to mean a familiar friend and then a person who talks idly about others.
मध्य अंग्रेज़ी *gossib* (“गॉडपैरेंट; घनिष्ठ साथी”) से, जो पुरानी अंग्रेज़ी *godsibb* (“ईश्वर के संबंध से जुड़ा/आध्यात्मिक रिश्तेदार”) से आया; बाद में अर्थ ‘परिचित मित्र’ से बदलकर ‘दूसरों की बातें/निजी बातें करने वाला व्यक्ति’ हो गया।
Definition
“Gossips” can mean (1) people who habitually talk about others’ private lives, or (2) the act of talking about such private matters (as the verb form), often in an informal, sometimes unkind way.
