Origin & History

From Middle English glib ‘smooth, slippery’, probably related to Scots/Northern English dialect words meaning ‘slippery’; later extended to ‘smooth in speech’.

मध्य अंग्रेज़ी glib (‘चिकना/फिसलन भरा’) से; संभवतः स्कॉट्स/उत्तरी अंग्रेज़ी की बोलियों के ‘फिसलन’ अर्थ वाले शब्दों से संबंधित; बाद में अर्थ ‘बोलने में चिकना/धाराप्रवाह (पर सतही)’ तक विस्तृत हुआ।
