Definition
In differential geometry, a geodesic is the shortest (or locally shortest) path constrained to lie on a surface (e.g., on a sphere it follows a great-circle arc); more generally it is a curve with zero acceleration relative to the surface/space, often used to describe natural motion in curved spacetime.
अवकल ज्यामिति में, ज्योदेसिक वह पथ है जो किसी वक्र पृष्ठ पर ही रहते हुए दो बिंदुओं के बीच सबसे छोटा (या स्थानीय रूप से सबसे छोटा) होता है; उदाहरण के लिए गोले पर यह महावृत्त (great circle) के चाप के साथ चलता है। अधिक सामान्य रूप से यह “सीधातम” वक्र है, जो वक्रित अंतरिक्ष-समय में प्राकृतिक गति का वर्णन करने में भी用 होता है।
