From English general + the suffix -ist (“a person who practices or is concerned with”), formed in the 19th–20th century in contrast to specialist.
यह शब्द अंग्रेज़ी general (सामान्य/व्यापक) + प्रत्यय -ist (जिसका अर्थ ‘उसमें संलग्न/अभ्यास करने वाला व्यक्ति’) से बना है; 19वीं–20वीं शताब्दी में specialist के विपरीत अर्थ में प्रचलित हुआ।
Definition
A generalist is someone who can work across a wide range of tasks or fields, connecting ideas and adapting to different needs, but may not have deep expertise in a single narrow specialty.
जनरलिस्ट वह व्यक्ति होता है जिसके पास कई क्षेत्रों/विषयों में व्यापक ज्ञान या कौशल होता है; वह अलग-अलग जरूरतों के अनुसार ढलकर अनेक प्रकार के काम कर सकता है, लेकिन किसी एक बहुत संकीर्ण क्षेत्र में अत्यधिक गहरी विशेषज्ञता जरूरी नहीं होती।
