Origin & History
From the title of the play 'Gas Light' (1938) and its film adaptations, where a husband manipulates his wife into doubting her sanity by dimming gas lights and denying it; the verb 'to gaslight' became common in late 20th century.
यह शब्द नाटक 'Gas Light' (1938) और उसके फ़िल्म रूपांतरणों से आया है, जहाँ एक पति गैस लाइट की रोशनी कम करके और फिर इनकार करके पत्नी को अपनी समझ/मानसिकता पर शक करने के लिए मजबूर करता है; 'to gaslight' क्रिया के रूप में यह शब्द 20वीं सदी के उत्तरार्ध में आम हुआ।
Definition
To gaslight someone is to repeatedly deny facts, twist information, or stage situations so the person questions their own reality; 'gaslighted' describes that this manipulation has already happened.
'गैसलाइट' करना यानी बार-बार तथ्यों से इनकार करना, बातों को तोड़-मरोड़कर पेश करना या हालात ऐसे बनाना कि सामने वाला अपनी याददाश्त, समझ या मानसिक स्थिति पर ही शक करने लगे; 'gaslighted' बताता है कि यह मनोवैज्ञानिक छल पहले ही किया जा चुका है।
