From Latin Gallicus (“Gallic, of the Gauls”), later used in English for the Celtic languages and cultures of Ireland and Scotland.

Gaelic refers to the Celtic languages spoken chiefly in Ireland and Scotland (Irish and Scottish Gaelic), and by extension to the people, culture, and traditions associated with these languages.
