From Middle English and Old French friller (“to curl, frizzle”), related to the idea of a curled/pleated edge; later used for decorative ruffles and figuratively for nonessential additions.
यह शब्द मध्य अंग्रेज़ी और पुरानी फ़्रांसीसी friller (अर्थ: सिकोड़ना/घुँघराला करना) से जुड़ा माना जाता है; पहले ‘मुड़ा/प्लीटदार किनारा’ के भाव से और बाद में सजावटी रफ़ल/फ्रिल तथा रूपक रूप में ‘गैर-ज़रूरी अतिरिक्त’ के अर्थ में प्रचलित हुआ।
Definition
A frill is (1) a pleated strip of cloth/paper used as decoration on clothes or objects, (2) any edge or margin that looks like such a strip, and (3) something extra that is not necessary—added only for show or luxury; as a verb it means to add frills or to become wrinkled.
फ्रिल (1) कपड़े/कागज़ की प्लीटदार पट्टी होती है जो कपड़ों या वस्तुओं पर सजावट/किनारे के लिए लगाई जाती है, (2) ऐसा कोई भी किनारा/हाशिया जो उस जैसी बनावट रखता हो, और (3) कोई गैर-ज़रूरी अतिरिक्त चीज़ जो केवल दिखावे या शौक के लिए जोड़ी जाए; क्रिया रूप में इसका अर्थ फ्रिल लगाना/बनाना या सिकुड़कर झुर्रीदार हो जाना है।
