Definition
Fossilification is the set of natural processes by which the remains, impressions, or traces of once-living organisms are preserved over long periods, often by burial, compaction, and mineral replacement (permineralization), forming fossils in sedimentary rock.
जीवाश्मीकरण उन प्राकृतिक प्रक्रियाओं का समूह है जिनके द्वारा किसी समय जीवित रहे जीवों के अवशेष, छाप या चिन्ह बहुत लंबे समय तक सुरक्षित रह जाते हैं—अक्सर दबने, संपीड़न और खनिजों द्वारा प्रतिस्थापन/भराव (पर्मिनरलाइज़ेशन) के कारण—और इस तरह अवसादी चट्टानों में जीवाश्म बनते हैं।
