Origin & History
Formed from focalize + -ation; focalize is based on focus (from Latin focus ‘hearth, fireplace’), later used for optical focus. The narrative-theory sense was popularized in French criticism (focalisation) in the 20th century.
यह शब्द focalize + -ation से बना है; focalize का आधार focus है (लैटिन focus ‘चूल्हा/अंगीठी’ से), जिसका बाद में अर्थ दृष्टि-विज्ञान में ‘फोकस’ के रूप में विकसित हुआ। कथानक-सिद्धांत वाला अर्थ 20वीं शताब्दी में फ़्रांसीसी आलोचना (focalisation) के माध्यम से प्रचलित हुआ।
Definition
Focalization refers to focusing (in optics or general attention) and, in literary/narrative theory, to the viewpoint or consciousness that filters what the reader is allowed to know.
फोकलाइज़ेशन का अर्थ किसी चीज़ को फोकस में लाने (दृष्टि-विज्ञान/ध्यान) की प्रक्रिया से है; और साहित्य/कथानक सिद्धांत में यह उस दृष्टिकोण/चेतना को दर्शाता है जिसके माध्यम से कहानी की जानकारी पाठक तक छनकर पहुँचती है।
