From English flux (Middle English), via Latin fluxus (“a flowing”), from fluere (“to flow”); the technical metallurgy sense comes from the idea of “flowing/melting” and agents that promote it.

Definition
Fluxing means (1) being in a state of change or flow, and (2) in metallurgy/chemistry, adding a flux to a metal/ore or joint to remove oxides/impurities and improve melting or soldering.
