Origin & History
From Latin fluere (“to flow”), via Latin/New Latin fluor (“a flowing; flux”), because it was used as a flux in metalworking; the mineral name fluorite developed from fluor/fluorspar.
लैटिन fluere (“बहना/प्रवाह होना”) से, लैटिन/नव-लैटिन fluor (“प्रवाह; फ्लक्स”) के माध्यम से—क्योंकि धातुकर्म में इसे फ्लक्स के रूप में उपयोग किया जाता था; इसी fluor/fluorspar से खनिज का नाम fluorite विकसित हुआ।
Definition
Fluorite is a common mineral made of calcium fluoride (CaF₂). It occurs in many colours and is valued both as an industrial material (especially as a flux in steelmaking) and as a raw material for products like glass, enamels, and hydrofluoric acid.
फ्लोराइट कैल्शियम फ्लोराइड (CaF₂) से बना एक सामान्य खनिज है। यह अनेक रंगों में मिलता है और उद्योगों में (विशेषकर इस्पात निर्माण में फ्लक्स के रूप में) तथा काँच, इनैमल और हाइड्रोफ्लोरिक अम्ल जैसे पदार्थों के निर्माण के लिए उपयोगी कच्चा माल माना जाता है।
