From flat + fish; the plural flatfishes refers to fishes commonly called flatfish (order Pleuronectiformes).
'flat' + 'fish' से; बहुवचन 'flatfishes' उन मछलियों के लिए प्रयुक्त होता है जिन्हें सामान्यतः फ्लैटफ़िश कहा जाता है (आदेश: Pleuronectiformes)।
Definition
Flatfishes are bottom-dwelling marine fishes; as they mature, one eye migrates to the other side of the head, so both eyes end up on one side and they usually swim lying on their side near the seabed.
फ्लैटफ़िश (समतल मछलियाँ) समुद्र की तलहटी के पास रहने वाली मछलियाँ होती हैं; बढ़ने पर इनकी एक आँख सिर के दूसरी ओर खिसक जाती है, जिससे दोनों आँखें एक ही तरफ़ हो जाती हैं और ये प्रायः एक करवट लेकर समुद्र-तल के पास तैरती हैं।
