From French fertiliser and Latin fertilis (“fruitful”), from ferre (“to bear, carry”) + -ilis; in modern English, the verb developed with the sense “make fertile” and later “apply fertilizer.”
फ्रेंच fertiliser और लैटिन fertilis (“फलदायी/उपजाऊ”) से; यह ferre (“उत्पन्न करना/ढोना”) + -ilis से बना है। आधुनिक अंग्रेज़ी में इसका अर्थ पहले “उपजाऊ बनाना” था और बाद में “उर्वरक/खाद डालना” के अर्थ में विकसित हुआ।
Definition
To supply soil or crops with nutrients (by adding manure, compost, or chemical fertilizer) so that plants grow better; in biology, to make an egg begin to develop by joining sperm and egg.
