'एपिडेमियोलॉजी' से बना शब्द (ग्रीक epi ‘पर/ऊपर’ + dēmos ‘लोग’ + -logia ‘अध्ययन’) तथा अंग्रेज़ी विशेषण-प्रत्यय -ical; आधुनिक जन-स्वास्थ्य शब्दावली में (19वीं–20वीं शताब्दी) प्रचलित।

Epidemiological describes anything connected with epidemiology—studying how often diseases occur, where and in whom they occur, what factors influence them, and how to prevent or control them at the population level.
