अंग्रेज़ी ear (कान) + flap (फ्लैप/पट्टी) से बना शब्द; 20वीं शताब्दी में उन सर्दियों की टोपियों के संदर्भ में प्रचलित हुआ जिनमें कान ढकने के लिए नीचे मोड़े जाने वाले हिस्से होते हैं।

Earflaps are the side pieces on certain hats or hoods that fold down to cover the ears and protect them from cold and wind.
