Origin & History
From Latin drupa “overripe olive, drupe” + the suffix -ose “full of, having the nature of”; used in botanical Latin and later in English botanical description.
लैटिन drupa (अधिक पका जैतून/ड्रूप) + प्रत्यय -ose (अर्थ: ‘युक्त/स्वभाव वाला’) से; वनस्पति-विज्ञान की लैटिन परंपरा में और बाद में अंग्रेज़ी वनस्पति-वर्णन में प्रचलित।
Definition
In botany, describing a fruit that is a drupe (or drupe-like): a fleshy fruit with a single hard stone (endocarp) enclosing the seed, as in peach, cherry, or olive.
वनस्पति-विज्ञान में, ऐसे फल का वर्णन जो ड्रूप (या ड्रूप-सदृश) हो: गूदा-युक्त फल जिसके भीतर एक कठोर गुठली/पत्थरीला आवरण (एंडोकार्प) होता है और उसी में बीज बंद रहता है, जैसे आड़ू, चेरी या जैतून।
