down + hill से बना; अंग्रेज़ी में 16वीं शताब्दी से प्रचलित; बाद में अल्पाइन स्कीइंग की एक विधा के रूप में भी उपयोग होने लगा।

Downhill describes something that goes down a slope (literal), and it can also mean that a situation is declining or getting worse (figurative); it is also used for the alpine skiing discipline or a downhill run.
Downhill का अर्थ ढलान पर नीचे की ओर होना/जाना (शाब्दिक) है; और यह किसी स्थिति के बिगड़ने या गिरावट में जाने (रूपक) के लिए भी प्रयुक्त होता है; यह अल्पाइन स्कीइंग की ‘डाउनहिल’ विधा या डाउनहिल रन के लिए भी इस्तेमाल होता है।
