Origin & History
From German Taler (short for Joachimsthaler), a silver coin; via Dutch/Low German forms, the name came into English as “dollar” and was later adopted for various national currencies, including the United States.
जर्मन ‘टालर’ (Joachimsthaler का संक्षिप्त रूप) नामक चाँदी के सिक्के से; डच/लो-जर्मन रूपों के माध्यम से यह शब्द अंग्रेज़ी में ‘dollar’ बना और बाद में अमेरिका सहित कई देशों की राष्ट्रीय मुद्राओं के लिए अपनाया गया।
Definition
A dollar is a unit of money used in several countries (notably the United States, Canada, Australia, and others). It can refer to the currency unit itself or to a coin/banknote worth one dollar; in general speech it may also mean money in dollars (e.g., “ten dollars”).
डॉलर कई देशों (विशेषकर संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका, कनाडा, ऑस्ट्रेलिया आदि) में प्रयुक्त मुद्रा की इकाई है। यह मुद्रा-इकाई के नाम के रूप में या एक डॉलर मूल्य के सिक्के/नोट के रूप में प्रयुक्त होता है; बोलचाल में यह डॉलर में धनराशि (जैसे “दस डॉलर”) का भी अर्थ दे सकता है।
