Origin & History
From the verb dive (Old English dӯfan, meaning “to dip, sink, or plunge”) + the agent suffix -er (“one who does”); later specialized for underwater swimmers and also for diving water birds.
यह शब्द क्रिया dive से बना है (पुरानी अंग्रेज़ी dūfan, अर्थ “डुबाना/धँसना/झपटकर अंदर जाना”) और कर्ता सूचक प्रत्यय -er (“करने वाला”) से; बाद में इसका प्रयोग विशेष रूप से पानी के भीतर गोता लगाने वाले व्यक्ति तथा गोता लगाने वाले जल-पक्षियों के लिए होने लगा।

A diver is someone who goes underwater by diving, often wearing equipment such as a mask, fins, and an air tank (scuba), for recreation, rescue, research, or underwater work; the word can also mean a water bird that plunges beneath the surface to catch fish.
डाइवर वह व्यक्ति है जो खेल, बचाव, अनुसंधान या पानी के भीतर काम के लिए पानी में गोता लगाकर नीचे जाता है, अक्सर मास्क, फिन और एयर टैंक (स्कूबा) जैसे उपकरण पहनकर; यह शब्द उन जल-पक्षियों के लिए भी प्रयुक्त होता है जो मछली पकड़ने के लिए पानी में डूबकी लगाते हैं।
