From Middle English direction, from Latin dīrectiō (“a setting straight, a directing”), from dīrigere (“to direct, to set straight”). “Directions” is the plural form used especially for route or procedural instructions.

Definition
“Directions” most commonly means instructions for reaching a place (route guidance) or for doing a task (steps). It can also refer to the course/line along which something moves (north, left, toward a place) or a general trend/plan for the future.
