Definition
A dichromate is a chemical compound containing the dichromate ion (Cr2O7^2−), typically orange in solution, and it interconverts with the yellow chromate ion (CrO4^2−) as pH changes; dichromates are widely used as strong oxidizing agents (but many are toxic and hazardous).
