Diabolisation derives from French diabolisation, from diaboliser (“to depict as diabolical”), ultimately from Greek diabolos (“slanderer; the Devil”) via Latin diabolus.

Diabolisation is the process of representing a person, group, or idea as wicked, inhuman, or devil-like—often to justify hostility, exclusion, or punishment.
