From Middle English *crowe*, from Old English *crāwe* (the bird); the verb sense is related to imitating the bird’s call and later ‘to boast/exult.’

Definition
“Crows” most commonly means more than one crow (the black, intelligent bird), and it can also mean “he/she/it crows,” i.e., makes a crowing sound (like a rooster) or boasts/exults.
