From Middle English countie, via Old French conté (“county”), from Latin comitatus (“companionship; jurisdiction of a comes (count)”), from comes (“companion; count”).
यह मध्य अंग्रेज़ी countie से आया है, जो पुरानी फ़्रेंच conté (“काउंटी/काउंट का क्षेत्र”) के माध्यम से लैटिन comitatus (“सहचरता; काउंट (comes) के अधिकार-क्षेत्र”) से निकला है; comes का अर्थ “साथी; काउंट” था।
Definition
Counties are local administrative areas (or historical territorial units) within a country or state, often used for government services, courts, records, and regional identity; in the US a county is typically a subdivision of a state.
काउंटियाँ किसी देश या राज्य के भीतर स्थानीय प्रशासनिक क्षेत्र (या ऐतिहासिक भू-भागीय इकाइयाँ) होती हैं, जिनका उपयोग अक्सर सरकारी सेवाओं, अदालतों, अभिलेखों और क्षेत्रीय पहचान के लिए किया जाता है; अमेरिका में ‘काउंटी’ सामान्यतः किसी राज्य का उप-प्रभाग होता है।
