Origin & History
From counter- (meaning "opposite/against" or "in opposition") + sunk (past participle of "sink"); in technical use, "countersink" developed the sense "to sink into by making a conical recess" (recorded from the 19th century).

Definition
In engineering and woodworking, "countersunk" describes a hole or fastener seat that is widened at the top in a cone shape so a screw/bolt head can sit level with (flush) or slightly below the surface, reducing snagging and improving finish.
इंजीनियरिंग और बढ़ईगीरी में "countersunk" ऐसे छेद या फास्टनर-सीट को कहते हैं जिसके ऊपरी हिस्से को शंक्वाकार रूप से चौड़ा किया जाता है ताकि स्क्रू/बोल्ट का सिर सतह के समतल (फ्लश) या थोड़ा नीचे बैठ सके; इससे अटकने की संभावना कम होती है और फिनिश बेहतर होता है।
