From Latin commūtāre (“to change, exchange”), from com- (“together”) + mūtāre (“to change”); later used for regular travel between home and work.

लैटिन commūtāre (अर्थ: “बदलना/अदला-बदली करना”) से, जहाँ com- (“साथ/एक साथ”) + mūtāre (“बदलना”) है; बाद में इसका प्रयोग घर और काम के बीच नियमित यात्रा के अर्थ में भी होने लगा।

“Commuted” means (1) traveled regularly between home and a workplace/school, usually over some distance, and (2) (law) had a punishment reduced or changed to a less severe one.
