From the plural of community, ultimately from Latin communitas (“fellowship, community”), from communis (“common, shared”).

Definition
Communities are groups formed by people (or living organisms) who share something in common—such as location, culture, language, religion, interests, work, or online interaction—and who often support, influence, or depend on one another.
