Probably from the adjective chink(y) meaning “having narrow slits,” later applied (derogatorily) to East Asian eyes; use as an ethnic slur is recorded from the late 19th–early 20th century.

An extremely offensive and derogatory word used as an ethnic slur against people of East Asian appearance (especially Chinese). It should be avoided in all contexts except when discussing or quoting it in an educational or historical way.
